Started kayaking: 2001
My first Kayak: Perception Avatar
Favourite kayak: Too many to pick, it depends on my mood and where I'm paddling. Valley Anas Acuta for big water, Boreal Baffin C1 for personal day trips and rolling, Maelstrom Vital for teaching...makes me look like a superstar, and of course my Greenland skin-on-frame built by me with a teeny, little bit of help from James…what?
Favourite paddling spot: Philip Edward Island, Georgian Bay, Pukaskwa National Park, Lake Superior, Clayoquot Sound, BC, the rock gardens around Cornwall, England
Favorite thing to do in a kayak: Pretty blended strokes, Practice Greenland rolls, coaching others so that they experience the joy of succeeding and accomplishing their goals in a kayak, it's a rush to witness their excitement.
Best paddling experience: Being coached on my Level Four Skills course by Michael Pardy of SKILS, especially the currents lessons at Surge Narrows and crossing Beasley Passage successfully and further upriver of all the men ;0) Some might call it a lucky day, I call it girl power...just sayin'
Dream Paddling Trip: The coast of Thailand and the islands of the Philippines, although I've heard it's not the safest place, must investigate further.
Shout-out to my paddling mentors: Conor Mihell, Vince and Ginny, Cheri and Turner, Michael Pardy and JF Marleau, but obviously and most of all, my personal coach James Roberts. He taught me how to roll in eight minutes and the rest is history.
My day job: Full time Owner of Ontario Sea Kayak Centre, Full time Kayak Instructor and Instructor trainer.
Previous jobs: Editorial Acquisition and Production in the publishing field, Editor and Producer for an E-Learning company, Yoga Alliance Instructor, Children’s Author, babysitter
Interests, hobbies, random skills: I can block my nose for rolling by making a monkey face, I love snowshoeing, traveling, yoga, I love being a mother to my four awesomely cool children who are now adults; three of whom live out West and are too far away.
