This area of Nova Scotia has recently been protected by the Nature Trust. So far, they have managed to protect 80% of these 100 Islands spanning around 3000 acres. Last year James was running Paddle Canada Level 3 and 4 courses in this area which got us thinking; if we came here in the summer, instead of late in the fall, we could use some of the same stunning features to coach paddlers to improve paddling skills while camping and exploring these stunning islands.
During this coaching trip, you will get to travel and explore some of these islands and when we find appropriate features we can stop and work on rock gardening techniques, rescues, surfing, and we will have many opportunities to work on navigation and weather interpretation. The trip/course will be tailored to you to make sure you are getting trained at an appropriate level for your skill level and exposed to the conditions needed to work on the skills you are looking to learn. All skills will be “challenge-by-choice” which will allow you to work a feature to whatever level you are at. You can even avoid the dynamic areas if you just want to come and explore this area. James and Dympna are senior level coaches and can teach to whatever level you are currently at, and take you to the next.
The islands in this archipelago allow us to explore, camp and practice navigation. Clam Harbour Beach, which is only 20 minutes away, gives us access to stunning Atlantic surf and with James and Dympna guiding and coaching you we will make sure your skills improve while you discover this amazing part of Nova Scotia.
Our partners at Norse Cove Seaside camping will provide us with accommodation in their seaside cabins before and after our trip. We will actually be spending two nights here at the end so we can enjoy a surf/beach day. We will shuttle you to and from Halifax International Airport, and take care of the equipment, meals, and training.
We are bringing high-end fiberglass kayaks for all participants on this trip. Alternatively, you have the option to paddle your own kayak on this trip if you would like. We will arrange a pick up in the Toronto area or you can drop off at our place in Parry Sound pre-trip. Please know that this trip is part of our maritime tour where we are also guiding a Newfoundland trip. We depart Ontario on July 3 and return on July 31st so your baby would be with us for the month if we bring it for you. The kayaks will be stored in a secure location at all times and no one else will sit in your kayak. We are simply adding this as a service because we know how much we all love paddling our own.
